Hiring Salary Range for Level I (Entry Level)
$75,500-113,300
Hiring Salary Range for Level II (2+ Years of Experience)
$99,900-149,900

Dairyland Power Cooperative is seeking a Civil or Structural Engineer to lead the design and engineering of physical components for high-voltage and medium-voltage substations. This role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient substation designs while adhering to industry standards. The engineer will collaborate with internal teams, support project planning and execution, and provide technical expertise for maintenance and construction activities.
The impact you'll make in this role:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible, with minimal supervision, for the engineering and design of high voltage and medium voltage substation. Engineering and design of substations to include general arrangements, equipment and electrical layout, elevations, cable trench and raceway design, foundation design, bills of materials, and AC and DC power systems.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry and safety standards and codes, including RUS, OSHA, ANSI, NEC, NESC, local and other applicable standards and codes.
- Responsible for the preparation and revisions of material and equipment specifications. Work with purchasing and project management staff to procure materials necessary for substation maintenance and construction activities.
- Coordinate with other Dairyland technical and field personnel to assist in problem-solving, construction changes, and schedule changes.
- Responsible for creating or assisting project managers with creating project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules for capital and maintenance projects.
- Responsible for performing engineering calculations relating to the physical design of the substations, such as equipment ratings, bus calculations, and others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Structural Engineering from an accredited university. Three (3) years of progressive experience in the areas of substation physical design, substation protection and control design, or structural design. Knowledge of project estimating and engineering economics. Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
Skills:
- Requires a high degree of understanding of spatial concepts, mathematics, mechanics, and statistics
- Must have good oral and written communication skills
- Experience with computer-aided drafting software such as AutoCAD is preferred
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of power systems is desirable
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
