A day in the life

  • Meet with ECE members, electricians, contractors, and state/county Highway staff.
  • Prepare accurate construction unit summaries and project cost using ECE’s line extension policy and available technology.
  • Design, coordinate, route, and stake/flag the electrical distribution facilities in accordance with Rural Utilities Service (RUS), National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and the cooperative’s accepted practices.
  • Perform required design, staking, and pricing of state, county, and township road projects (grading and relocation) to ensure compliance with applicable codes and the cooperative’s accepted practices.
  • Conduct operations and maintenance surveys, safety surveys, reject pole replacements and retire idle services, as needed.
  • Determine, establish, and secure all necessary local, county, state, or federal permits for all projects.
  • Two-year technical degree
  • 4 years of electrical theory and power design experience
Specialized knowledge
  • Understand building construction as it interacts with electrical distribution lines.
  • Have the expertise required to implement the NESC codes, RUS design, and other laws and rules regarding safety to design a safe electrical system.
  • Use computer-related hardware and software and other office equipment used in design.
  • Communicate effectively with consumers, employees, and government agencies for clarifying project plans and obtain necessary permits.
  • Possess a high level of integrity and respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform moderately complex mathematical calculations, including the use of surveying skills and trigonometry.

The starting salary range for a fully qualified candidate for this position would be $70-$80,000. This is a non-exempt, non-supervisory, onsite position at our Braham, MN, operations center.
